Expand your leader skills

As a Bachelor of International Hospitality Management you will be qualified to work with hotel, tourism, and experience management. The BA in International Hospitality Management is a 1½ year bachelor's degree building on your academy profession degree in Service, Hospitality and Tourism Management, Marketing Management, or other similar programmes.

The programme is designed to equip you with knowledge and skills that will enable you to work as e.g. a manager, administrator or project manager, or to perform other functions in the multi-faceted hospitality industry.

You will be able to independently analyse, evaluate, and review business issues and scenarios and to perform different complex tasks related to general operation, development, planning, administration and management in hospitality enterprises.

The study programme includes a three month internship, where you will have the opportunity to transfer theory and methodology into reality. The internship will give you an insight into complex issues that managers/consultants face in their daily work. 


The programme is compriced of a variety of teaching and learning methods, i.e. lecturing, classroom teaching, guest lecturing, practical classes, presentations (including student presentations), case studies, seminars (workshops), and project work, as well as work placement in relevant organisations or companies.

The programme contains the following subjects:

Semester 1

  • Economics (15 ECTS)
  • Management (10 ECTS)
  • Theory of Science (5 ECTS)

Semester 2

  • Cultural awareness & Customer relations (10 ECTS)
  • Elective module (5 ECTS)
  • Strategy (15 ECTS)

Semester 3

  • Work placement (15 ECTS)
  • Final thesis and final bachelor examination (15 ECTS)

Work placement

The work placement period takes place in the third semester. Work placement is a full-time equivalent of a job performed in a business setting, with a workload of 30 hours per week, excluding writing a work placement report and a work placement learning journal. Scheduling the work placement in the final semester allows the student to acquire professional competence and apply theory and methodology in a real-life business setting and also to assess and reflect on the practical issues that are relevant to the bachelor project and final bachelor examination.

Bachelor project

The study programme culminates with a final bachelor project. In the bachelor project you should demonstrate your ability to combine theoretical, practice- and development-orientated elements and communicate it through a solid methodological foundation. The project is a research into and an analysis of a practical problem, which is carried out in cooperation with a company/organisation.

The international dimension

The international dimension constitutes an integral part of the International Hospitality Management Programme, which clearly reflects a sustained globalisation trend. One of the main objectives for working with internationalisation is to help contribute to the professional development and creative thinking of the students and in general during the tuition. The internationalisation aspect is embedded in all elements of the curriculum but it gains considerable visibility in the sixth semester, which includes a course in Cultural awareness & Customer relations and a work placement that can be taken abroad.

Admission Requirements

General Diploma requirements:

In order to enter the programme you must have one of these AP degrees:

  • Marketing Management
  • Service, Hospitality and Tourism Management

English requirements:

If your AP degree has been taught entirely in English, there are no further requirements for proof of English language skills.
However, if your degree has not been taught entirely in English, you must show proof of your English language skills. Your English language test must be no more than two years old. See minimum requirements.

Individual Assessment

If you hold a similar degree from another country, your application will go through an individual assessment, where the content of your degree will be compared to our AP degrees.

Documents to include

When you apply, you should attach all relevant documents, for instance:

  • Your AP degree Diploma including a transcript of subjects and grades, or just a transcript of grades, if you have not yet completed your degree. All Diplomas and transcripts must be in English as well as original language, if the degree was not taken in English
  • Proof of English language skills, if your degree was not entirely taught in English
  • Proof of citizenship and/or your current residence permit to Denmark
  • A motivational letter, explaining why you want to study this programme
  • A CV, which shows your education, work experience and other relevant competences

As an Exchange student through Erasmus, Nordplus or a non-European Partner agreement, you may choose between participating in a Summer/Autumn or a Winter/Spring semester.

Tuition fees

For full degree Danish citizens and for full degree EU citizens who are students at a Higher Level Education, tuition is free of charge.

For Erasmus+ students tuition is free of charge.

For non-EU citizens, who do not hold a permanent residence permit to Denmark, tuition fees will be charged. Read more about tuition fees here.


Higher Level Education gives students the right to apply for SU, which is a monthly Student Grant provided by the Danish State during studies.

Danish citizens are entitled to receive SU. International students are also entitled to apply for SU, but certain requirements must be fulfilled, for instance, there is a requirement about working a certain number of hours per week during studies.

When to apply for SU

You may apply up to 1 month before you are entitled to receive SU. If for instance your study programme begins on the 31 August (later than 20 August) then you are entitled to receive SU from September (if you fulfill all conditions.). In that case you may apply one month before 1 September, meaning from the 1 August.

NOTE! Please do not apply for SU on the same day as you receive your admission letter. First you must make a confirmation of your study place and then a few days will pass, before this information has been received in the SU system. If you wait a few days, it will be easier for you to make your SU application, because some of your information will already be pre-registered at

Expenses during studies

All full degree students must pay for their own books and photocopies, participation in study trips or internships in Denmark or abroad etc. Erasmus+ students borrows books for free from UCL.

Living costs and accommodation

The monthly living costs including rent are approximately DKK 6,000. Student accommodation in Odense typically cost around 2.500 DKK (approx. 330 Euro) per month, with a 3 month deposit payable prior to handover of keys. UCL provides counselling on how and where you can get accommodation, and Odense City Council guarantees that there is accommodation available to all EU-students at institutions of further education.


Can I buy books at UCL or do you co-operate with certain book stores?

No, UCL does not sell books (unless it specifically says on the book list that a certain book can be purchased at the school). However, certain study programmes have agreements with book stores. Ask your local book store for a student discount or buy books online.

Computer Science: You can buy a book package on (in Danish).

Architectural Technology and Construction Management: We do cooperate with the book store at SDU.

Should I buy all the books on the book list before the study start?
It is recommended to buy the books up front, because there is a risk that they could be sold out when you need them.
Which books will I need?
The book list will be published on this website under the relevant study programme.
Can UCL help to find accommodation?
We help students to find accommodation, but we do not have any housing options. Find inspiration on how to find accommodation in Odense or Vejle on this page.
May I use an older issue of the books that are mentioned on the book list?
Often an older issue can be used, if you make sure to add the latest chapters from the new book. Please ask your teacher if this also applies for your particular book.
Do I need to buy a particular computer and/or particular computer programmes?
Only if you are studying Architectural Technology and Construction Management. 
Where can I park my bicycle?

In Odense and Vejle there are either bicycle storage or bicycle racks, which you can use.

Is it possible to have a part-time job, while I am studying full time?

Yes, however we recommend no more than 10-15 hours work per week. In most study programmes your lessons will end at 16.15, so you must work after this time and on weekends.

What is Fronter and when can I get access to it?
Fronter is the electronic platform, where all necessary information about the study programme, time tables and teaching materials will be published. Login for Fronter will be handed out one of the first days of studies.
What type of activities can I expect during the introduction period?

In most study programmes you will find a combination of social activities (teambuilding), practical activities (introduction to Fronter, Library etc.) and normal lessons. Most study programmes publish the introduction schedule on this website under the programmes as soon as it is ready.

Is it possible for me to attend the same class as my friend?
Yes, if you contact your student counsellor in good time before the semester starts, it is usually possible.
Is parking free?

Yes, but the parking conditions are different in Odense and Vejle. Read more about parking here.

How long can I take holidays during Easter?
The three working days before Maundy Thursday and Good Friday are free as well as Easter Monday.
When will I get my schedule/time table?
Most study programmes publish a schedule for the introduction days on this website. The schedule for the following time period will be available once you receive your login to Fronter  - it will be one of your first days of studies.
When do we have summer holidays?
All of July is free. Check the Calendar of events for your study programme to see, when your classes will start again after the summer Holidays.
When will my study programme begin?
The starting date is visible on this website - find it under the relevant study programme. The exact time and place is mentioned in the admission letter.
How do I get a student card?

Your student card is digital and is placed in our EAL Selvbetjening app. You can download the app in either Apple Store or Google Play.

Is it compulsory to attend study trips in Denmark and abroad?
Normally, it is not compulsory to attend study trips, but some study programmes have made it compulsory. Please check the Curriculum, which you will find on this website under the relevant study programme.
Is there a Winter Break?
Some study programmes have a Winter Break in week 7 and others do not.
